Short Biography

Simon Karuku is a mathematics educator with experience in teacher training and research in Mathematics and Science Education, Early Childhood Development Education, and Teacher Education. He is a lecturer in the Department of Education and the HERI Africa Research Co-Chair in Mathematics Education.

Research Interests

Simon Karuku’s research interests lie at the intersection of Mathematics and Mathematics Education. His research spans the application of mathematics in the biosciences and the teaching and learning of mathematics and numeracy, with particular interest in teacher–learner interactions, teachers’ mathematical and pedagogical practices, and the factors shaping learners’ engagement with and learning of mathematics. His work also focuses on the design, implementation and evaluation of evidence-informed interventions aimed at strengthening mathematics and numeracy education and improving learners’ mathematics learning outcomes.
